If you've ever found yourself in school, or university, or an educational institution, and you didn't feel fully satisfied by how you learned there — by the methods of teaching, the division of subjects, how the subjects were taught, the grading system, by the knowledge and attitude and mindset of your teachers...
If you felt that they were closed-minded, not curious, they didn't reward you for your curiosity, they weren't playful, they didn't think outside the box, they didn't draw connections between subjects, they didn't relate it to the foundations of knowledge in everyday life...
If you felt it didn't go deep enough, it was too shallow, and you wanted to really go to the roots of knowledge, rather than how they're divided up artificially by an institutional system...
Then this is the tribe for you.
10 years tutoring Maths and Physics. MSci Physics & Philosophy, First Class, Bristol University.
My tutoring slots fill up. I turn away more students than I can help. This app is how I help more people.
Everything in this app comes from what I do in sessions: give you a problem, wait for you to try, show you where you went wrong, track what you know, bring back the things you're forgetting.
One client told me she chose me specifically because of my learning philosophy.
The people of this tribe are very, very curious. They're very playful. They take an interest in learning for its own sake. They take an interest in learning how to learn. They take an interest in deep philosophical questions, such as what is knowledge, what is learning, what is it to educate.
They ask why over and over until they get back down to the very first principles. They seek out contrary arguments. They're always trying to find their own weaknesses, always trying to better themselves, learn from their mistakes, expose themselves to their mistakes through testing, expose themselves to their mistakes through dialogues with others.
They show intellectual courage. There's no timidity in their approach to the vast body of knowledge that surrounds us and to the infinite amount of knowledge that can be gleaned from the universe. If only we asked, if only we knew where to look and what questions to ask and how to sift through the sands on the seashore to understand the universe better.
For the members of this tribe, learning did not stop with their exam. In fact, the exam was just a vehicle for them to learn more deeply. They didn't treat their courses as a means to an end.
Rather, they saw learning as the end in itself.
And they even questioned that and go back to Aristotle and Plato and reasoning about what the end means. Fundamentally, they place a deep value in learning in and of itself. They see learning as a lifelong commitment and calling.
To be with people like that.
Built on proven learning science
Accumulate mistakes as quickly as possible.
Before you even start reading, try the question. Draw forth anything related — even if it's wrong. Try first, then learn. This is the correct approach to nearly all learning.
Why? This is the testing effect — research shows that attempting to retrieve information strengthens memory far more than re-reading or passive review. When you struggle to recall something, the correct answer sticks.
Most people skip this step for fear of appearing foolish. But that fear is the enemy of learning.
These aren't just opinions. Decades of cognitive science research confirm these principles work:
This app embodies this methodology. It gives you problems. It waits for you to try. It shows you where you went wrong. It tracks what you know and what you don't. It brings back the things you're forgetting.
This isn't an exam prep app that happens to teach you things. It's a learning tool that happens to be useful for exams.
Practice questions mapped to AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CCEA specifications. See exactly what you know and what you don't, topic by topic.
Research shows testing yourself beats re-reading. This app makes you try first, then shows the answer. That's how memories form.
The app tracks what you're forgetting and brings it back at the right time. Spaced repetition doubles long-term retention.
Rather, it's about discovering what it is.
This app uses the same methodology that got these results.
Jack offered GCSE Maths tutoring to my daughter who felt she was struggling and unable to keep up with her teacher in class. Jack has a very kind and respectful manner and his teaching style fits really well with her. She felt allot more confident in class and has started to enjoy Maths. She achieved the highest mark she could in her first year of GCSE 'B' and has decided to take the higher level, so she can hopefully achieve an 'A'. Jack has always been punctual, reliable and accommodated any changes we may have needed to make. We are continuing her tutoring with Jack for Maths and Physics to help her achieve her full potential, and I would gladly highly recommend him.
My son was expecting 2 B's in his Physics and Maths A levels, which would have been excellent, so 2 A's was a really big surprise for him. That was largely down to Jack's teaching methodology combined with my son's hard work. Jack gave him his passion for Physics back, but also passed that onto Maths, which had faded for him during the pandemic. He had lost his confidence in his ability, which I knew was still there, but it took Jack to reignite it. He felt completely at ease and confident to ask any questions of Jack without feeling inferior/embarrassed. He also added that this was not the experience he had under the schooling system.
To be honest there are very few tutors like Jack, who take learning back to first principles and most importantly enthuse the student. My experience has taught me that it is only the true experts in their field who never find any type of question to be silly and Jack is one of them, unfortunately there aren't enough people with that mindset and the expertise. Jack also provided excellent notes on Maths, Physics and learning strategies. He made a big difference!
When I enquired with Jack to tutor my son for Further Maths GCSE, my son was only getting grade D in his mocks and was losing confidence in the subject even though I knew he could do better. Jack was always punctual and worked one to one with my son. He showed patience and really helped restore his confidence and my son passed his GCSE Further Maths which we are delighted with. My son really got on with Jack's teaching methods and I thought it beneficial to have Jack tutor him through his A Level maths. My son is now studying at Queens and I know that Jack definitely was what helped him to get through his A Level Maths. I would highly recommend Jack as a tutor.
When we first contacted Jack, he replied very promptly to our queries regarding tutoring my teenage daughter with her GCSE chemistry and physics. These subjects had been somewhat of a downward spiral for her the last two years and she had been asked to take the lower foundation exam as her scores were so low. Jack was insightful and agreed to begin weekly sessions. His communication prior to and following lessons was exemplary and he was always prompt, well prepared and very polite. Jack provided weekly sessions for several weeks and in that time was able to transform my daughters attitude to her subjects and bolster her knowledge and understanding significantly. He developed a fantastic rapport with her and she enjoyed every lesson. She was ultimately able to take the higher tier exam and her confidence and optimism towards the subjects was wonderful to see. She has achieved her absolute best thanks to Jacks patient approach and insightful methods. He followed up after lessons and produced many helpful videos and pieces for her to complete between lessons. I would highly recommend Jack for any tutoring, but particularly to restore the energy and effort to those subjects that may have wilted. He has made a huge difference to my daughters education and would not hesitate to use him again in the future.
The tribe is quite clear that there is such a thing as the truth. There is such a thing as knowledge. And we can get at it.
Otherwise, the planes wouldn't be flying, the lights wouldn't be on, technology wouldn't have progressed.
How exactly we find that knowledge is a deep philosophical question, an ongoing inquiry in which this very introduction is itself a small part of that wider movement.

But that intention is pure.
That intention will ripple out like a stone cast into a pond, ripple out to the edges. And before it just dies out entirely, another stone might just drop in.
The pebble of your mind might just drop into this tribe, into the stillness of consciousness, awakening to learning.
